How to form the Present Continuous tense in English: introduction

There are a lot of different tenses in English. We use them to talk about the past, present and future. Let’s look at the Present Continuous.

We use the Present Continuous to talk about things that are happening now.

To form the Present Continuous we need a main verb and an auxiliary verb, which is a form of the verb TO BE.

For example, the first person singular form of the Present Continuous tense of the verb to work is I am working:
